Make Room for What Matters: Taking Inventory of Your Thoughts

We’ve been talking this month about making room for what matters.🌿
Maybe sometimes that means cleaning out a drawer or clearing away things we no longer need.
But what about the clutter we can’t see?
Our thoughts.
I find myself taking inventory of my thoughts regularly.
Do you ever catch yourself having a whole conversation in your mind, and then suddenly you almost feel like you wake up and think, “Why was I even talking to myself about that?”
Maybe you’ve replayed something that happened yesterday or years ago, or possibly you're rehearsing a conversation you wish had been different.
Before you know it, you’ve been emotionally involved in a conversation that isn’t even happening in the present moment.
I’ve done it.
It’s often easier to replay what we’ve already experienced than to imagine something new.
Our thoughts do matter.
The thoughts we continually think, talk, and rehearse in our minds will begin to influence the way we see ourselves, our circumstances, and what’s possible for our future.
So what if we started paying a little more attention?
Let's catch ourselves going down that familiar path, then pause and say, “Wait. Is this where I want my thoughts to go?”
Keep in mind this is not pretending the past didn’t happen or ignoring difficult emotions.
But we can choose whether we want to keep rehearsing the old or if we want to give our minds permission to see, think, and create something different that will have us feeling better.
This is where it can get really exciting.
Your imagination can go anywhere.
Your imagination is limitless. Let it go; it can take you anywhere, anytime.
I remember lying in the grass looking up at the sky and seeing cloud formations of funny faces or cartoon characters.
Talking to my friend and dreaming of what life was going to be like when we were grown up, going places, doing things, and who we were going to marry. 😉 Surely I am not the only one who did that 🤗
We weren't just using imagination; we were creating with our thoughts.
Maybe that’s another way of making room for what matters. Not only clearing out the things around us, but becoming more aware of what’s taking up space inside us.
So this week, take inventory, run a virus scan, and eliminate the mental congestion and clutter
Hopefully you’ll join me.
You might be surprised by how much possibility is waiting for a little room.
Make room for what matters. And have a fun imagining what’s possible. 🌿
Your friend, Cindy ❤️
