Make Room for What Matters: Sometimes We Just Need to See Things Differently

Lately, my house has been getting a little makeover.🏠🌿

I’m painting the inside, getting a new countertop, and, of course, that means I’m also sorting through things I’ve probably ignored for longer than I care to admit!

But something interesting has happened along the way.

As the fresh paint goes up, I look around and suddenly notice things I haven’t really seen in years.

The light switches that have definitely seen better days. Little things that look worn or dated.

Areas that I’ve simply gotten used to.

And that’s what made me think about how easily we can become stagnant in our own lives.

Sometimes we get so accustomed to the way things are that we stop noticing them. We don’t necessarily love them, but they’re familiar. So we keep going.

Then something changes.

A fresh coat of paint.

A little rearranging.

Clearing out a drawer.

And suddenly, our eyes open.

We see things differently.

Now, I’m certainly not suggesting that you need to paint your entire house or replace your countertops! Believe me, I’m living that lesson right now. 😊

Instead, maybe start with one room.

Look around with fresh eyes.

What still serves you? What doesn’t? What have you been holding onto simply because you’re used to seeing it there?

And maybe this isn’t just about our homes.

Maybe we can do the same thing with our time, our thoughts, our routines, or the things we’ve been carrying around for too long.

Sometimes we don’t need to change everything.

We just need to make a little room and give ourselves the opportunity to see things differently.

I wish I had started with one room years ago.

But maybe that’s part of the lesson too.

It’s never too late to make room for what matters. 🌿
